Hello guys, I haven’t blogged in a while, but I am at it again though. So glad to share this information with you, information about giving/offering that is not at all like the prosperity gospel but rather giving that is within Biblical guidelines, the giving that will actually ensure that you will be blessed.
I want to talk about the Where? How? reasoning behind offering. Today let’s only focus on ‘Where’ God requires us to give.
So Where should we give? According to the Bible we as Christians are supposed to give to the Church (Malachi 3:10 ) mainly because church has expenses like any house, rent, electricity, water, taking care of the “Pastor” (the quotation marks are there for reason to be discussed later) the list goes on and it is entirely dependent on the local church we go to. It is the responsibility of those who go to a certain church to ensure that the church’s bills are paid. This type of offering should appeal to everyone’s logic, I don’t like calling this kind of offering, “giving” and neither should we have to be preached about our offering for our own church’s expenses. That is just my argument.
I am particularly fascinated with these Bible verses about offering that prosperity gospel churches never really talk about… Where I think the real “giving” starts. This is how the Bible defines it.
Religion that our Father accepts as pure and faultless is this: to look after orphans and widows in their distress and to keep oneself from being polluted by the world.James 1:27
Jesus himself also went on ahead to include, prisoners, the homeless, the naked, the sick almost everyone who is in need around us…
35. For I was hungry and you gave me food; I was thirsty and you gave me a drink; I was a stranger and you took me in; I was naked and you clothed me; I was sick and you visited me; I was in prison and you came to me.Matthew 25:35-36
This is the kind of giving that is an apple in God’s sight, one that has a promise of eternal value and one that will guarantee blessings and opening of financial doors.
Whoever is kind to the poor lends to the Lord, and he will reward them for what they have done.Proverbs:19-17
Why am I involving “Pastors” in this? I’m involving Pastors because nowadays they only preach about the offering that goes to the church so that they can benefit from it and get richer. They claim that by sowing seeds at church, or by buying the pastor a huge gift, this will cause God to bless us as belivers. I also have this against churches/pastors nowadays they hardly preach about giving to widows, orphans, and refugees as the Bible states…
28. At the end of every three years, bring all the tithes of that year’s produce and store it in your towns, so that the Levites, the foreigners, the fatherless and the widows may come and eat and be satisfied, and so that the Lord your God may bless you in all the work of your hands.Deuteronomy 14:28-29
The Bible states that the wealth of the church should be given to/shared among the Levites (that nowadays kinda represents Pastors), the foreigners (refugees/poor), the fatherless and widows in and outside the church. However most Pastors keep the tithe offerings to themselves, they have removed the rest of the groups that God has himself nominated to benefit from church offerings, they have left only themselves. How is it that the Pastor is driving the most expensive cars while some members are dropping out of church because they lack clothes for the next Sunday, why are the streets that lead to the church filled with beggars? It is because the Pastor takes for himself the share of the widows, the foreigners, and the fatherless. That is why we always give at church but we never seem to be blessed, every Sunday we sow for the same things but we never reap them. What am I saying?
I am saying that you should know what your church does with the rest of its offerings after they have paid their expenses. I am only saying that giving to church alone, especially a church that doesn’t take care of the poor won’t yield to much results. I’m saying we should go above and beyond giving in church and just be to the needs of ‘Christ’, clothe him, feed him, visit him, take him in when he’s homeless, visit him in prison as mentioned in the Bible. I’m merely saying that we have been denying the poor their Biblical rights that is why we lack, that is why we sow every Sunday and we don’t reap.
As Christians we should read the Bible to establish what God’s will for each and everything we do. Let us not give out of tradition but let us give out of understand and only then will we reap.
